Cape Town Community Recording Sessions
Join the Cape Town Community Recording Sessions, held on the second Thursday of every month at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. These free, hands-on field sessions, led by the African Bioacoustics Community, are open to enthusiasts, students, and community members of all experience levels.
Participants are encouraged to come along, learn practical recording techniques, and help document the sounds of Cape Town’s rich local wildlife. Whether you’re new to bioacoustics or an experienced recorder, these sessions offer a relaxed and supportive space to learn, share, and contribute to growing acoustic archives.
The event is free, with garden entry included under our SANParks research permit. While open to all, prior notification of attendance is recommended, please email africanbioacoustics@gmail.com to let us know you’re coming. Mobile phones are sufficient for recording, and limited additional recording equipment may be available to borrow, subject to availability. Participants are also encouraged to bring binoculars and species identification books to support field observations.
